JAY MASON

Saxophone and woodwind artist Jay Mason began his freelance music career in Southern California after graduating from CSU, Long Beach with a B.A. in Music.  His performance credits include The Rockettes, Barry White, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Michael Feinstein, Suzanne Somers, Maureen McGovern,  Kenny Rogers, Scott Record, Joel Grey,  Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Newhart, Bob and Dolores Hope, Red Buttons,  Melissa Manchester, Donny Osmond, Eartha Kitt, Gloria Loring, Johnny Mathis, Robert Goulet, Jamie Lynn Siegler, Andy Williams, Roger Williams, Alan Paul, Ric Flauding; Tom Harrell, Greg Osby, Nicholas Payton, Barbara Morrison, Tierney Sutton, Lorna Luft, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Jody Benson, Art Linkletter, Steve Tyrell, Tom Scott, Cirque Du Soliel, and many others. 

In addition to the Big Phat Band, Jay also appears regularly with several area big bands including Bill Watrous, The Bill Elliot Swing Orchestra, Doug MacDonald, Buddy Chlders, and others.  He has been a member of the Long Beach Municipal Band for 7 seasons and the Walt Disney Distinguished Service awards orchestra for the past 3 years.  Jay has also found time to play with The Disneyland Band, The Pacific Symphony and The Indian Wells/Desert Symphony.

Active in the Southern California musical theatre scene, Jay has performed at venues such as the South Coast Repertory Theatre,  La Mirada Civic Theatre,  Orange County Performing Arts Center, and the Ahmanson Theatre. Shows have included Company, Kiss Me Kate, The Full Monty, Cinderella, A Chorus Line, Sunday In The Park With George, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peter Pan, and Little Shop of Horrors, to name a few.

Jay has recorded with  John Lithgow, The Lettermen, Tom Kubis, Bill Elliott, Jerry Grant, Indigo Swing, Alan Jackson,  Steve March Torme’, Steve Allen, and others.  Soundtracks for motion picture and television include: "The Paper" , "Aladdin, King of Thieves" , "Forest Warrior" , "Nixon" ,"Cats Don’t Dance", "Killer", "Psycho Surf Babe" ," Sweetwater", " Mango Kiss" , The Howie Mandel Show; Tower Of Terror; Alley Cats Strike, Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story; Femme Fatales & Ingenues on A&E; Belles’ Magical Stories: Dragon Tales;  The Dorothy Dandridge Story, and The Gilmore Girls.

Also very active in music education, Jay serves on the faculty at Long Beach City College, maintains a home teaching studio, and has been an artist/clinician at such schools as CSU, Fresno, Irvine and El Toro High Schools and La Paz Middle School in Southern California, Red Rocks High School, Mesa, AZ and Carroll County High School, Southlake, TX.  Jay is a Vandoren Reed Artist.  Jay Mason
